Aquarium Heaters
One of the most important pieces of equipment you need for your aquarium is your aquarium heater.
The ideal temperature range varies from fish to fish depending on the natural habitat they come from. The following table shows the ideal temperature according to the type of aquarium setup you might have:
| Aquarium Setup |
Temperature Range
|
| Freshwater tank with most tropical fish |
77 to 83 degrees
|
| Saltwater aquariums (Fish Only) |
76 to 82 degrees
|
| Reef aquarium |
76 to 78 degrees
|
Another thing to take into consideration is the indoor temperature of the area where the aquarium is located.
For us humans the temperature we are confortable with varies, therefore it is advisable to check the temperature of the room you will have your aquarium first. I case that the average temperature is above the highest temperature range for your specific aquarium, you should also be looking for an aquarium chiller.
To keep your fish alive it is very important to keep your tank without sudden temperature fluctuations, that is not to let the temperature of your aquarium fluctuate to more than 6 degrees in 24 hours. Smaller fluctuations in temperature could make them sick and eventually they could die also, therefore it is important to have a very stable temperature in your aquarium. Pests like Ick/ Ich attacks fish that pass through abrupt temperature fluctuations.
