Quarantine Tank Setup
To have quarantine tank is very important for your aquarium and for your aquarium fish because it will help you test your new fish against diseases, or in the case of a tank infestation, it could make it easy and more manageable to treat the outbreak.
Supplies:
- 5 to 20 Gallon Tank
- A hang on power filter
- A heater
- A thermometer
- An Air stone and an air pump.
- Aquarium water test kits to measure ph, Ammonia, NitrIte and NitrAte.
- Separate fish net only for the use with the quarantined fish.
The setup is simpler than setting up a full aquarium tank. The initial cycling setup is not required because the water used for the quarantine tank is water from your main tank, you would perform a partial water change to your main tank for all that matters to your main tank. It is advisable to always run a second filter in your main tank.
Setup:
- Place the hang on hang on filter, place the heater, thermometer, and your air-stone in your quarantine tank
- Add the water from your tank you can siphon it out carefully. (Don’t swallow the probably infected / medicated water).
- Turn all equipment on.
- Use your quarantine fishnet to get the sick fish out of your aquarium tank and place them in the quarantine tank.
You are done, now test the water daily and medicate both of your tanks, now the job will be easier because you won’t have a sick fish passing on any Ick or any other infecting diseases to other fish.
