Wet Dry Filter

A wet dry filter is the best aquarium filter to use to increase your tank’s biological filtration. It is important to emphatise that the biological filtration occurs all over your main tank, and live rock is a great element to have to increase the biological filtration, but, in cases some cases you might prefer to have more control over that filtration to make sure that your fish are safe, so you use a Wet Dry Filter.
I wouldn’t recommend getting by without one.
The Wet Dry Filter is usually located underneath your main tank, in the aquarium cabinet. It has one pipe that pulls the water down from your tank filling up compartment number one. Once the water overflows the compartment in goes to a very short tray-like shape that creates a very small waterfall over the second compartment. The second compartment is usually filled with porous material such as bio-balls, bio bale material that due to their surface serve effectively as ground for Nitrosonomas and Nitrobacters to colonize and process ammonia and NitrIte. After the water has gone through the biological material it gets deposited in that chamber where you place your protein skimmer and your heater. That water then gets routed to the last chamber through a sponge filter media. In that chamber there is a pipe connected to a pump that will get the water up back to the aquarium.
